Mel Levine
Meldon Edises "Mel" Levine (born June 7, 1943 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American politician . Between 1983 and 1993 he represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Mel Levine attended Beverly Hills High School until 1960 and then studied at the University of California at Berkeley until 1964 and at Princeton University until 1966 . After a subsequent law degree at Harvard University and his admission as a lawyer in 1970, he began to work in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1977 and 1982 he was a member of the California State Assembly . During the same period he took part as a delegate at all regional party conventions of the Democrats in California. In 1980 and 1984 he was also a delegate to the Democratic National Conventions .
In the 1982 congressional election , Levine was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 27th constituency of California , where he succeeded Republican Bob Dornan on January 3, 1983 . After four re-elections, he was able to complete five legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1993 . In 1992 Levine renounced another candidacy for the US House of Representatives. Instead, he unsuccessfully sought his party's nomination for the US Senate elections . Today he works as a lawyer in a joint law firm. He is married to the journalist Connie Bruck for the second time. He has three children from a previous marriage.
