John H. Rousselot (1973)

John Harbin Rousselot (born November 1, 1927 in Los Angeles , California , †  May 11, 2003 in Irvine , California) was an American politician . Between 1961 and 1983 he represented the state of California twice in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Rousselot attended public schools in his home country. He then studied at Principia College in Elsah ( Illinois ) until 1949 . He then worked as an insurance agent. In 1954 and 1955 he was in the public relations department of Pacific Finance Corp. active in Los Angeles. From 1958 to 1960 he also worked in the public relations department of the Federal Housing Administration in Washington, DC At the same time, he began a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In August 1956 he was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in San Francisco , where President Dwight D. Eisenhower was nominated for re-election.

In 1956 and 1957, Rousselot was a member of the Republican State Board of California. In the 1960 congressional elections , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the 25th  constituency of California, where he succeeded George A. Kasem on January 3, 1961 . Since he was not confirmed in 1962, he was initially only able to complete one legislative period in Congress until January 3, 1963 . He then worked as a business consultant. After the death of Member of Parliament Glenard P. Lipscomb , Rousselot was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in the by-election due for the 24th seat of his state, where he took up his new mandate on June 30, 1970. After six re-elections, he could remain in Congress until January 3, 1983. Since 1976 he has represented the 26th District of California as the successor to Thomas M. Rees . His time as a congressman saw the end of the Vietnam War and the civil rights movement, as well as the Watergate affair in 1974 .

In 1982 John Rousselot was not re-elected. In 1983 he was on the advisory board of President Ronald Reagan . From 1985 to 1988 he was President of the National Council of Saving Institutions . In 1992 he applied unsuccessfully to return to Congress. John Rousselot died in Irvine on May 11, 2003.
