Dan Lungren
Daniel Edward "Dan" Lungren (* 22. September 1946 in Long Beach , California ) is an American politician of the Republican Party and former Attorney General of California. From 1979 to 1989 and from 2005 to 2013 he was a member of the US House of Representatives for California .
biography
Lungren is one of the sons of John C. Lungren, Sr., the personal physician to US President Richard Nixon . After attending St. Anthony High School in Long Beach, he studied English at the University of Notre Dame from 1964 to 1968 , where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA English). He then completed postgraduate studies in law at the University of Southern California and Georgetown University in 1971 with a Juris Doctor (JD). After his admission in 1972 he practiced as a lawyer and in the meantime also served on the staff of the Republican Senators of California , George Murphy , and Tennessee , Bill Brock .
He began his political career from 1974 to 1979 as a delegate to the Republican Conventions in California to nominate the Republican candidate for governor and from 1977 to 1978 as co-chair of the National Congressional Council. In 1978 he was elected for the first time as a member of the US House of Representatives and represented there between January 3, 1979 and January 3, 1989, first the 34th and then since January 3, 1983 the 42nd congressional electoral district of California.
He renounced in 1988 to run again and was elected Attorney General of California in 1990. After his confirmation in 1994, he held this position during the tenure of Governor Pete Wilson from 1991 to 1999. In 1998 he ran himself as the Republican candidate for governor of California, but was defeated by his Democratic opponent, the former Lieutenant Governor Gray Davis , with 38.4 to 58 percent of the vote.
In 2004 he was again elected a member of the US House of Representatives and represented there after three re-elections since January 3, 2005, the 3rd congressional electoral district of California. Until January 3, 2013, Lungren was not only the highest ranking member ( Ranking Minority Member ) and thus spokesman for the Republican minority faction in the Committee for the Administration of the House of Representatives ( US House Committee on House Administration ), but also a member of the Committees for Homeland Security ( US House Committee on Homeland Security ) and Justice ( US House Committee on the Judiciary ) as well as the Joint Committee for the Library of Congress ( US Congress Joint Committee on the Library ).
In 2012, Dan Lungren ran in the seventh constituency of his state for re-election. He lost to Ami Bera .
