Thomas Miller "Tom" McClintock (born July 10, 1956 in Bronxville , New York ) is an American politician . Since 2009 he has represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Tom McClintock studied at the University of California in Los Angeles until 1988 and then worked as a journalist. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1982 and 1992 and again from 1996 to 2000 he was a member of the California State Assembly . He was then a member of the State Senate between 2000 and 2008 . In 1992 he ran unsuccessfully for Congress ; In 2003 he stood in the by-election for the office of governor of California and took third place behind the victorious Arnold Schwarzenegger and Cruz Bustamante . Three years later he was unsuccessful in the election to lieutenant governor .

In the 2008 congressional election , McClintock was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the fourth constituency of California , where he succeeded John Doolittle on January 3, 2009 . After four re-elections so far in 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016, he can continue to exercise his office today. His new legislative term runs until January 3, 2019 with the option of a further candidacy in 2018. McClintock is or was a member of the Budget Committee and the Committee on Natural Resources and three of its sub-committees. He was also in the meantime the conservative Republican Study Committee and the tea party movement related Tea Party Caucus on.

McClintock is married with two children. In his private life he lives in Elk Grove .
