George Radanovich

George Purdy Radanovich (born June 20, 1955 in Mariposa , Mariposa County , California ) is an American politician . Between 1995 and 2011 he represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .

Career

George Radanovich attended California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo until 1978 . After that he worked for some time in the banking industry and was involved in viticulture. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1982 and 1986 he was a member of the Planning Commission in Mariposa County; since 1985 he has been its chairman. He then sat on the local district council from 1988 to 1992. In 1991 he also held the chairmanship here. In 1992 he ran unsuccessfully for the US House of Representatives.

In the 1994 congressional elections , Radanovich was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 19th  constituency of California , where he succeeded Richard H. Lehman on January 3, 1995 . After seven re-elections, he was able to complete eight legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 2011 . The terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 , the Iraq war and the military operation in Afghanistan took place during this period . Radanovich was most recently a member of the Energy and Trade Committee and three of its sub-committees. He was considered a relatively conservative MP.

In 2010 he renounced another candidacy. He has a son with his wife Ethie, who died in the same year.
