Eugene Albert Chappie (born March 28, 1920 in Sacramento , California , †  May 31, 1992 in Georgetown , California) was an American politician . Between 1981 and 1987 he represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Eugene Chappie attended his homeland public schools including Sacramento High School , which he graduated from in 1938. Between 1942 and 1947 he served as a captain in the US Army , where he was deployed in the South Pacific during World War II and later in Korea . After his military service, Chappie worked as a rancher. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1950 and 1964 he was district administrator in El Dorado County . From 1964 to 1980 he was a member of the California State Assembly . Between 1968 and 1972 he was a delegate at the Republican party conventions in California. He also took part in the Republican National Conventions in 1968 and 1972 , where Richard Nixon was nominated as a presidential candidate.

In the 1980 congressional elections , Chappie was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the first constituency of California , where he succeeded Harold T. Johnson on January 3, 1981 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1987 . Since 1983 he has represented the second district of his state there as the successor to Donald H. Clausen . In 1986, Chappie declined to run again. Between 1989 and 1991 he was a member of the county council in El Dorado County. He died on May 31, 1992 in Georgetown.
