Robert John Lagomarsino (born September 4, 1926 in Ventura , California ) is a former American politician . Between 1974 and 1993 he represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Robert Lagomarsino attended the public schools in his homeland. During World War II , he served in the US Navy between 1944 and 1946 . He then studied until 1950 at the University of California at Santa Barbara . After studying law at the same university and being admitted to the bar in 1954, he began to work in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1958 he became a local councilor in Ojai ; from 1958 to 1961 he was mayor of this place. From 1961 to 1974, Lagomarsino was a member of the California Senate . He was also a delegate to regional Republican party conventions in California from 1961 to 1974.

After the death of MP Charles M. Teague , Lagomarsino was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the by-election due for the 13th seat of California , where he took up his new mandate on March 5, 1974. After nine re-elections, he could remain in Congress until January 3, 1993 . Since 1975 he represented there as the successor to Chester E. Holifield the 19th  constituency of his state. Right at the beginning of his time in Congress, political life was shaken by the Watergate affair . Lagomarsino was temporarily a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Committee on Interior and Insular Affairs . In 1992 he was no longer nominated for re-election by his party.

After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, Robert Lagomarsino remained politically active at the local level. However, he no longer held higher offices. He spends his old age in Ventura.
