Burt Lacklen Talcott (born February 22, 1920 in Billings , Montana , † July 29, 2016 in Tacoma , Washington ) was an American politician . Between 1963 and 1977 he represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Burt Talcott attended his home public schools and Great Falls High School . He then studied at Stanford University until 1942 . Between 1942 and 1945 he was a bomber pilot in the US Army Air Corps during the Second World War . After being shot down over Austria , he was captured by Germany for 14 months. He later received the Air Medal and the Purple Heart for his military services . After a subsequent law degree at Stanford and his admission as a lawyer in 1948, he began to work in Salinas in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party .

In the 1962 congressional election , Talcott was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the twelfth constituency of California , where he succeeded Bernice F. Sisk on January 3, 1963 . After six re-elections, he was able to complete eight legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1977 . Since 1975 he represented the 16th district of his state there. In 1976 he was not re-elected.

After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, Talcott served as president of the consulting firm Talcott, McCabe and Associates from 1977 to 1986 . He was also active in various private and public bodies. Among other things, he worked for Pierce County in Washington state .
