Charles Herbert Wilson (born February 15, 1917 in Magna , Utah , †  July 21, 1984 in Clinton , Maryland ) was an American politician . Between 1963 and 1981 he represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1922, Charles Wilson moved with his parents to Los Angeles , where he attended public schools. Between 1935 and 1942 he worked as a bank clerk. During World War II , Wilson was a staff sergeant in the US Army . He was used on the European theater of war. After the war, Wilson set up an insurance agency in Los Angeles. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1954 and 1962 he was a member of the California State Assembly .

In the 1962 congressional elections , Wilson was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the then newly established 31st  electoral district of California , where he took up his new mandate on January 3, 1963. After eight re-elections, he was able to complete nine legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1981 . During this time, the end of the Vietnam War and the civil rights movement, as well as the Watergate affair in 1974 . In 1980, Wilson was given a formal warning by the Congress administration for financial involvement in the Koreagate scandal. In the same year he was no longer nominated for re-election by his party. After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, Wilson retired. He died in Clinton on July 21, 1984.
