James C. Needham
James Carson Needham (born September 17, 1864 in Carson City , Nevada , † July 11, 1942 in Modesto , California ) was an American politician . Between 1899 and 1913 he represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .
Career
In the year of his birth, James Needham came to Mayfield , California with his parents , where he later attended public schools. He then studied until 1886 at the University of the Pacific in San José . He then worked for some time at the Department of War in Washington, DC . After a subsequent law degree at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and his admission to the bar in 1889, he began to work in Modesto in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1890 he ran unsuccessfully for the California Senate .
In the congressional elections of 1989 Needham was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the seventh constituency of California, where he succeeded Curtis H. Castle on March 4, 1899 . After six re-elections, he was able to complete seven legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1913 . Since 1903 he represented there as the successor of James McLachlan the sixth district of his state. In 1912 he was not re-elected. After his time in the US House of Representatives, James Needham practiced as a lawyer in San Diego until 1916 . He then returned to Modesto, where he continued to practice law until 1919. Between 1919 and 1935 he served as a judge on the Superior Court of California . He died in Modesto on July 11, 1942.
