Lynn Schenk (born January 5, 1945 in New York City ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party . Between 1993 and 1995 she represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Lynn Schenk attended public schools in New York and Los Angeles . In 1962 she graduated from Hamilton High School in Los Angeles. This was followed by studies at the University of California there until 1967 . After completing a law degree at the University of San Diego and admission to the bar, she began working as a lawyer. In 1970 and 1971 she continued her education in England at the London School of Economics , where she studied international law. Back in California, she worked for some time as a division manager in the Attorney General's office . From 1972 to 1976 she was a lawyer forSan Diego Gas and Electric Co. She then served on the advisory board to Vice Presidents Nelson Rockefeller and Walter Mondale . From 1977 to 1980 she was Deputy Secretary of State for Commerce, Transportation, and Housing for the State Government of California from 1980 to 1983. She then worked as a private lawyer between 1983 and 1993. In 1988, she was vice-chairman of the California election campaign team for presidential candidate Michael Dukakis .

In the 1992 congressional election , Schenk was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the then newly established 49th  constituency of California , where she took up her new mandate on January 3, 1993. Because she was defeated by Republican Brian Bilbray in 1994 , she could only serve one term in Congress until January 3, 1995 . After her time in the US House of Representatives, Lynn Schenk worked in various functions for the state government of California under Governor Gray Davis until 2003 . Today she practices as a corporate law attorney. She is a board member of various organizations and continues to take an active part in political life. She is married to law professor C. Hugh Friedman.
