John R. Glascock

John Raglan Glascock (born August 25, 1845 in Panola County , Mississippi , †  November 10, 1913 in Woodside , California ) was an American politician . Between 1883 and 1885 he represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1856, John Glascock moved with his parents to San Francisco , where he attended public schools. He then studied until 1865 at the University of California at Berkeley . After a subsequent law degree at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville and his 1868 admission to the bar, he began to work in Oakland in this profession. From 1882 he was also authorized to hear cases before the Supreme Federal Court . Between 1875 and 1877 he was a district attorney in Alameda County .

Politically, Glascock became a member of the Democratic Party . In the congressional elections of 1882 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the then newly established fifth electoral district of California , where he took up his new mandate on March 4, 1883. Since he was not confirmed in 1884, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1885 . Glascock served as Mayor of Oakland between 1887 and 1890. After that he practiced as a lawyer again. He died on November 10, 1913 in his Woodside country house and was buried in Oakland.
