Joe Crail

Joe Crail (born December 25, 1877 in Fairfield , Jefferson County , Iowa , †  March 2, 1938 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American politician . Between 1927 and 1933 he represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Joe Crail attended public schools in his home country and then studied at Drake University in Des Moines . During the Spanish-American War of 1898 he was a soldier in a news unit. After that he was one of the occupying forces in Cuba . After studying law at the Iowa College of Law at Des Moines and his admission to the bar in 1903, he began working in this profession in Fairfield. In 1913, he moved his residence and law firm to Los Angeles. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1918 and 1920 he was party leader of the Republicans for Southern California .

In the 1926 congressional elections , Crail was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 10th constituency of California , where he succeeded John D. Fredericks on March 4, 1927 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1933 . Since 1929, the work of the Congress has also been shaped by the events of the Great Depression. In 1932 Crail renounced another candidacy for the US House of Representatives. Instead, he unsuccessfully sought his party's nomination for the US Senate elections . After his time in the US House of Representatives, he practiced as a lawyer again; he also worked in the banking industry. Joe Crail died in Los Angeles on March 2, 1938.
