Henry E. Stubbs
Henry Elbert Stubbs (born March 4, 1881 in Nampa , Coleman County , Texas , † February 28, 1937 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician . Between 1933 and 1937 he represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Henry Stubbs attended the public schools in Groesbeck and then studied at the Phillips University in Enid ( Oklahoma ). He then began from 1911 to work as a clergyman in the Christian Church . From 1911 to 1914 and again from 1918 to 1921 he was pastor in Frederick . In between he held this position from 1914 to 1917 in the Kingfisher community . In 1921 he moved to Tulare , California, where he was also a pastor until 1923. In 1923 he became a pastor in Santa Maria . At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Democratic Party .
In the 1932 congressional election , Stubbs was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the tenth constituency of California, where he succeeded Joe Crail on March 4, 1933 . After two re-elections, he could remain in Congress until his death on February 28, 1937 . During his tenure in Congress, most of the federal government's New Deal laws were passed under President Franklin D. Roosevelt . After a special election, his party colleague Alfred J. Elliott was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives.
