Leland M. Ford

Leland Merritt Ford (born March 8, 1893 in Eureka , Nevada , †  November 27, 1965 in Santa Monica , California ) was an American politician . Between 1939 and 1943 he represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Leland Ford attended public schools in his home country. He later studied at the University of Arizona in Tucson , the Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg and the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, among others . In 1909 and 1910 he worked for the company Southern Sierras Power Co. Then he worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad until 1913 ; in 1915 he was employed in Los Angeles for the Union Pacific Railroad . Between 1915 and 1919 Ford lived in Lynchburg ( Virginia ), where he worked in an agriculture and livestock farmers. In 1919 he moved to Santa Monica. There he worked in the real estate industry. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1923 and 1927 he was a member of the Santa Monica Planning Commission. From 1936 to 1939 he served as a district administrator in Los Angeles County .

In the 1938 congressional election , Ford was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 16th  electoral district of California , where he succeeded John F. Dockweiler on January 3, 1939 . After a re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until January 3, 1943 . By 1941, the last New Deal laws of the federal government were passed there under President Franklin D. Roosevelt . Since 1941, the work of the Congress was also shaped by the events of World War II .

In 1942, Leland Ford was not re-elected. After his time in the US House of Representatives, he worked again in the real estate industry. He died in Santa Monica on November 27, 1965.
