Milton J. Daniels
Milton John Daniels (born April 18, 1838 in Cobleskill , Schoharie County , New York , † December 1, 1914 in Riverside , California ) was an American politician . Between 1903 and 1905 he represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Milton Daniels attended public schools in his home country. As a boy he moved to Bradford County , Pennsylvania , where he worked in the wood industry with his father. From 1856 he was based in Rochester ( Minnesota ). In 1859 he became deputy post office owner there . He then attended Middlebury Academy in Wyoming County in New York in 1860 . During the Civil War , he served in a Wisconsin unit that was part of the Union Army . At the end of the war he had made it to the captain. After the war he went into banking. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1882 and 1886 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Minnesota ; from 1886 to 1889 he was a member of the State Senate . He was also the chairman of the State Mental Hospital Control Commission.
In 1889 Daniels moved to Riverside, California, where he worked in horticulture. At the same time, he continued his political career in his new home. In the congressional elections of 1902 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the then newly established eighth constituency of California , where he took up his new mandate on March 4, 1903. Since he refused to run again in 1904, he was only able to complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1905 . After his time in the US House of Representatives, Daniels returned to horticulture. He died on December 1, 1914 in Riverside.
