Michael "Mike" Ted Levin (born October 20, 1978 in Inglewood , California , United States ) is an American politician . As a member of the Democratic Party , he has held the 49th seat of the State of California in the United States House of Representatives since January 3, 2019 . He was elected to this office on November 6, 2018 and was sworn in on January 3, 2019.

Life

Mike Levin was born on October 20, 1978 in Inglewood , California to a Jewish father and a Mexican-American . His father's family comes from Austria . His grandfather Ted Levin was a gunner in the United States Army Air Corps in the Pacific War during World War II .

Levin grew up in Lake Forest , Orange County .

Levin attended Loyola High School in Los Angeles and then Stanford University , where he was president of the student body . He then attended Duke University School of Law in Durham , North Carolina, and then moved back to Orange County.

He has been married to his wife Chrissy since 2011 and has a son named Jonathan and a daughter named Elizabeth with her.

Professional career

Levin co- founded Orange County's CleanTech OC , a clean energy association, and worked at FlexEnergy , a company developing technology to use methane from landfills and wastewater treatment plants . From 2014 to 2017, he was director of government affairs at FuelCell Energy , a fuel cell manufacturing company.

He served as the vice president of Better Energy Systems , an environmental technology startup in Berkeley . and at the Center of Sustainable Energy , an environmental organization based in San Diego .

Political career

Mike Levin served as the Democratic Party executive director in Orange County and served on the National Finance Committee for Hillary Clinton in the 2016 United States presidential election .

On March 8, 2017, Levin announced his running for the 49th seat of the State of California in the United States House of Representatives . The previous owner of the headquarters, Darrell Issa , announced his resignation on January 10, 2019.

Levin won the Democratic primary on June 5 and the November 6, 2018 election against Diane Harkey of the Republican Party with 56.4 percent of the vote.
