Richard Henry Lehman (born July 20, 1948 in Sanger , California ) is an American politician . Between 1983 and 1995 he represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Richard Lehman attended public schools in his home country and then Fresno City College until 1968 . This was followed by studies at California State University in Fresno until 1969 . He graduated from the University of California at Santa Cruz in 1971 . From 1970 to 1976 Lehman worked for State Senator George Zenovich. During the same period he was also a member of the California National Guard. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . In August 1968 he was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention . Between 1976 and 1982 he was a member of the California State Assembly , where he was a member of the Democratic Group Bureau.

In the 1982 congressional election , Lehman was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 18th  electoral district of California , where he succeeded Bill Thomas on January 3, 1983 . After five re-elections, he was able to complete six legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1995 . Since 1993 he represented the 19th district of his state there. Among other things, Lehman campaigned for environmental and consumer protection. In 1994 he was not re-elected. Today he works for a lobbying firm in Sacramento .
