Ernest King Bramblett (born April 25, 1901 in Fresno , California , †  December 27, 1966 in Woodland Hills , California) was an American politician . Between 1947 and 1955 he represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Ernest Bramblett attended public schools in his home country and then studied at Stanford University until 1925 . He then studied at the University of Southern California . Between 1925 and 1928 he worked in the automotive and insurance industries. He then worked in the education sector until 1946. From 1943 to 1946 he was a school councilor in Monterey County . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . He served as Mayor of Pacific Grove from 1939 to 1947 . He was also on the Republican regional board from 1944 to 1946.

In the 1946 congressional election , Bramblett was elected to the Eleventh constituency of California in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded George E. Outland on January 3, 1947 . After three re-elections, he was able to complete four legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1955 . From 1953 he represented the 13th district of his state there as the successor to Norris Poulson . During his time in Congress, the Cold War began , the Korean War and, domestically, the civil rights movement .

In 1954, Bramblett was charged with financial embezzlement and convicted. That ended his political career. He later worked as a consultant in Southern California . He died in Woodland Hills on December 27, 1966.
