Elton Gallegly

Elton William Gallegly (born March 7, 1944 in Huntington Park , California ) is an American Republican politician . From 1987 to 2013 he represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Elton Gallegly attended Huntington Park High School until 1962 and then studied at Los Angeles State College until 1963 . He then worked in the real estate industry. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1979 he was a member of the Simi Valley Parish Council ; from 1980 to 1986 he was mayor there.

In the 1986 congressional elections , Gallegly was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 21st  constituency of California , where he succeeded Bobbi Fiedler on January 3, 1987 . Between 1993 and 2003 he represented the 23rd and then the 24th district of his state. After twelve elections he resigned in 2012 for another candidacy and retired from the on January 3, 2013 Congress of.

One of his concerns in Congress was animal welfare. Gallegly was a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Justice Committee and four sub-committees.

He has four children with his wife Janice. The family lives in Simi Valley.
