Lynn C. Woolsey (born November 3, 1937 in Seattle , Washington ) is an American Democratic politician . From 1993 to 2013 she represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Lynn Woolsey attended Lincoln High School in Seattle and then from 1955 to 1957 the University of Washington there . In 1980 she was still studying at the University of San Francisco . She worked in human resources and ran her own company. She has also taught at various colleges in California. At the same time she began a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1984 and 1992 she was a member of the Petaluma City Council . In 1989 and 1992 she was deputy mayor there.

In the 1992 congressional election , Woolsey was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the sixth constituency of California , where she succeeded Barbara Boxer on January 3, 1993 . She was re-elected nine times and announced in 2011 that she would not run again in the 2012 election for reasons of age. That is why she left the House of Representatives on January 3, 2013. Lynn Woolsey was a staunch opponent of the Iraq war and often called for the withdrawal of American troops from that country. Domestically, she campaigned for equal rights for all religions, among other things. In Congress, she was a member of the Education and Working Committee and the Science, Technology and Space Committee and three sub-committees. She also belonged to the left-liberal Congressional Progressive Caucus .
