Life

Bob Dornan attended public schools in his home country. In 1950 he graduated from Loyola High School in California. He then studied from 1950 to 1953 at Loyola Marymount University . Between 1953 and 1958 he served in the United States Air Force . Until 1973 he was a member of the reserve for this branch of service. In the following years, Dornan, whose uncle was the well-known entertainer Jack Haley , worked in the television and radio industries. He has also appeared as an actor in a few supporting roles in films and television series, including In Love with a Witch , The Charming Jeannie, and On the Run . At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1980, 1984 and 1988 he was a delegate to the respective Republican National Conventions , at which Ronald Reagan and later George Bush were nominated as presidential candidates.

In the 1976 congressional election , Dornan was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 27th  constituency of California , where he succeeded Alphonzo Bell on January 3, 1977 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1983 . In 1982 he decided against another candidacy in favor of an unsuccessful intra-party application for the US Senate elections. In the 1984 elections , Dornan was re-elected to Congress in the 38th district of his state, where he succeeded Jerry M. Patterson on January 3, 1985 . After five re-elections, he was able to spend six more terms in the US House of Representatives until January 3, 1997. Since 1993 he represented the then newly created 46th constituency of California. Dornan was considered a very conservative MP. But he was committed to animal welfare.

In 1996, Dornan was defeated by the Democrat Loretta Sanchez . He filed an objection to the outcome of this election without success. In 1998 he ran again unsuccessfully against Sanchez. Today he works for the American Life League , a Christian conservative anti-abortion organization.
