Bob Matsui

Robert Takeo "Bob" Matsui (born September 17, 1941 in Sacramento , California , †  January 1, 2005 in Bethesda , Maryland ) was an American politician . Between 1979 and 2005 he represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Bob Matsui attended CK McClatchy High School in Sacramento until 1959 and then studied at the University of California at Berkeley until 1963 . After studying law at Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco and being admitted to the bar in 1966, he began to work in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1971 and 1978, Matsui served on the Sacramento City Council. He was also a member of a few other local bodies. In 1977 he was the deputy mayor of Sacramento.

In the 1978 congressional election , Matsui was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of California , where he succeeded John E. Moss on January 3, 1979 . After 13 re-elections, he could remain in Congress until his death on January 1, 2005 . Since 1993 he has represented the fifth district of his state there as the successor to Nancy Pelosi . During his time as a congressman, the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 , the Iraq war and the military operation in Afghanistan fell . After his death, his wife Doris was elected as his successor to Congress, who still holds the mandate to this day.
