Wayne Richard Grisham (born January 10, 1923 in Lamar , Colorado , †  January 19, 2011 in La Mirada , California ) was an American politician . Between 1979 and 1983 he represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Wayne Grisham attended Jordan High School in Long Beach until 1940 . During the Second World War he was a pilot in the US Army Air Corps . He was used on the European theater of war. After being shot down, he was taken prisoner of war. After the war he continued his education at Long Beach City College until 1947 and then at Whittier College until 1949 . In 1950 and 1951 Grisham studied at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles . He then worked as a teacher and businessman. From 1958 to 1978 he ran his Wayne Grisham Realty company . Between 1974 and 1978 he was also Chairman of the Board of First Mutual Mortgage Co. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Republican Party . From 1970 to 1978 he was a member of the La Mirada City Council; in 1973 and 1974 and from 1977 to 1978 he served as mayor there.

In the 1978 congressional election , Grisham was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 33rd  constituency of California , where he succeeded Del M. Clawson on January 3, 1979 . After being re-elected, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until January 3, 1983 . In 1982 he was no longer nominated for re-election by his party. In 1983 he became regional director of the Peace Corps in Kenya's capital, Nairobi . Between 1985 and 1988 Grisham was a member of the California State Assembly . After that, he retired. He died on January 19, 2011 in La Mirada.
