Anthony Charles Beilenson (born October 26, 1932 in New Rochelle , New York - † March 5, 2017 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American politician . Between 1977 and 1997 he represented the state of California in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Anthony Beilenson attended Mount Vernon public schools . He then studied at the Phillips Academy in Andover ( Massachusetts ) until 1950 . This was followed by further studies at Harvard University until 1954 . After a subsequent law degree at the same university and his admission as a lawyer in 1957, he began to work in this profession in a large law firm in Beverly Hills, California . This law firm mainly represented the film industry. At the same time, Beilenson embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1963 and 1966 he was a member of the California State Assembly ; from 1967 to 1976 he was a member of the State Senate .

In the 1976 congressional elections , Beilenson was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 23rd  constituency of California , where he succeeded Thomas M. Rees on January 3, 1977 . After nine re-elections, he was able to complete ten legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1997 . Since 1993 he represented there as the successor to Henry Waxman the 24th district of his state. From 1989 to 1991 he was chairman of the secret service committee .

In 1996 Anthony Beilenson renounced another candidacy. He has not appeared politically since he left the US House of Representatives.
