Backgrounds and style

Before Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen officially announced that they would start a joint project called Knife Party , a title called Not Pendulum was published on Swire's SoundCloud channel to show that the new project was unrelated to their previous one Band Pendulum would have to do. On October 10th, the name of their first EP was made public. They posted on Facebook:

“Our upcoming EP is titled" 100% No Modern Talking ". Will contain 4 tracks: 'Internet Friends', 'Tourniquet', 'Fire Hive', and 'Back To The Z-List'. The current plan is to make it available for free, as well as through Beatport / iTunes / anywhere else we can put it. "

“Our EP will be called“ 100% No Modern Talking ”. It will contain 4 tracks: "Internet Friends", "Tourniquet", "Fire Hive" and "Back To The Z-List". We are currently working on offering the EP for free, just like in Beatport or iTunes, wherever we can offer it. "

The release date was finally announced on December 8th. The EP was released on December 12th.

The style of the EP was described as drum & bass , dubstep , electro house and moombahton .

The title 100% No Modern Talking most likely refers to the digital wavetable synthesizer "Massive" from Native Instruments, especially its waveform "Modern Talking". It mimics a vocal / speaking tone and is used excessively in modern electronic music styles such as dubstep, drum & bass, etc. The title ends with the ubiquitous use of the distinctive "modern talking sound" and promises more innovative sound design.

criticism

The album received mostly positive reviews. For example, Danny Atticus from Hit The Floor Magazine said, “So the EP as a whole is good, but I feel it is missing a little something. Maybe if Destroy Them With Lazers wasn't on there I'd think differently. "

An author from Salacious Sound also gave the album a positive review: “All in all, I think that it's a quite impressive showing, displaying quality production skills and an obvious sense of fun. Taking into account that Knife Party is only a side-project for two guys who have already attained super stardom, I'm thoroughly pleased. "
