Carl-Heinrich von Gablenz (born February 2, 1952 in Füssen ) is a German entrepreneur and manager . Von Gablenz comes from the Lower Lusatian noble family Gablenz . Two of his ancestors were central figures in aviation history : He is the grandson of Carl August von Gablenz , an aviation pioneer and son of Franz Heinrich von Gablenz , the former chief pilot of Deutsche Lufthansa AG . Carl-Heinrich von Gablenz became known primarily as the founder and CEO of Cargolifter AG . This company planned in the 1990s to bring about the renaissance of large airships, but had to file for bankruptcy in 2002 .

Life

Contrary to his ancestors, who were key figures in aviation , Carl-Heinrich von Gablenz began his career after graduating from the Lessing-Gymnasium in Frankfurt am Main in 1970 with an apprenticeship as a farmer . In 1979 he completed his law studies with the second state examination. In 1982 a doctorate followed at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich on the subject of the liability of banks when third parties are involved . In 1985 von Gablenz joined Bayerische Hypotheken- und Wechselbank as an employee and in 1986 he moved to the board of directors of Deckel Maho AG , where he was responsible for the company's IPO . From 1989 to 1993 he was managing director in a company in the watch industry in Thuringia .

In 1993 he was Visiting Research Professor at the Kenan – Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill . During this time he began to deal intensively with the problems and challenges of the logistics industry in the age of globalization . After returning to Germany, Carl von Gablenz initially worked as a management consultant and coordinator for an airport conversion project which, under the name Global Transpark , designed and wanted to build new cargo distribution centers around the world. He was also the managing partner of the European Global Transport Development Company based in Brussels .

At the same time as these activities, he was one of the central founders and ideas behind Cargolifter AG , which was founded in September 1996 . From 1996 until the bankruptcy of Cargolifter in 2002, he was its CEO .

From March 2001 to August 2004 von Gablenz was chairman of the VDI district association Berlin-Brandenburg.

In 2005, Carl von Gablenz and several former shareholders and employees again founded a company that focuses on the realization of lighter-than-air devices. Although legally independent from Cargolifter AG , the name of the newly founded company, CL CargoLifter GmbH & Co. KGaA , shows that the new company is an ideological successor company .

Carl von Gablenz is married and has four children.
