Fortuna is a city in Humboldt County in the north of the US state California with 11,926 inhabitants (status: Census 2010; 2000: 10,497 pop.). The geographical coordinates are: 40.59 ° north, 124.15 ° west. The urban area has a size of 12.5 km². The city is on the Eel River , about 15 kilometers from its confluence with the Pacific Ocean . US Highway 101 runs through the city and runs from Los Angeles in the south along the US Pacific coast to Olympia in Washington State.
