Jennifer Hawkins (born December 22, 1983 in Holmesville ) is an Australian beauty queen and presenter . She was the 2004 Miss Australia and Miss Universe winner .

Life

Hawkins was born in Holmesville , New South Wales and is one of four children. She currently lives in Sydney . She attended high school in West Wallsend. She used to be a cheerleader for the Newcastle Knights rugby league team and the Hunter Pirates basketball team . She worked as a model , which also brought her to the Miss Australia election, and as a choreographer for a dance team that specializes in hip-hop and ballet .

Career

After finishing school, Hawkins worked as a model before taking part in and winning Miss Australia in 2004.

So she was now eligible to participate in the Miss Universe 2004 election, which took place on June 1st in Quito , Ecuador . A week earlier, she was named one of six favorites for the crown. After being the first Australian in eleven years to reach the semi-finals, she was also able to prevail in the final and was crowned Miss Universe . She was the first winner from Oceania since 1983, the first from Australia since 1972 and the first blonde since 1989.

During her "reign" she traveled to Korea , Bahamas , Brazil , the Czech Republic , Germany , Greece , Singapore , Indonesia , Canada , Trinidad and Tobago , India , Ecuador , Mexico , Puerto Rico and several times to Thailand . After an official meeting with the Brazilian Vice-President José Alencar , the latter described her as the prettiest girl he had ever seen in his life. She was the first Miss Universe to participate in the Brazilian Carnival in February 2005 as part of a samba school.

Shortly after she was crowned, she made headlines at a fashion show at the Westfield Miranda Shopping Center when she stepped on the hem of her dress, which then fell to the floor, revealing her red G-string . Later she laughed and said that she wished she had worn better underwear.

Hawkins was a jury member for the final of the Miss Universe 2008 election in Vietnam .

In 2004 Hawkins signed a contract with the Australian television station Seven Network . She had her first appearance as a co-host of the travel show The Great Outdoors . When her time as Miss Universe ended, she became the show's lead host and was nominated for a 2006 Logie Awards for Most Popular New Female Talent . In 2009 the program was discontinued.

In 2006 she took part in the fourth season of the Australian dance show Dancing with the Stars and finished sixth there. She made cameo appearances on several episodes of the American television reality show The Apprentice with Donald Trump . She turned down the role of Sonia Solandres in the movie The Pink Panther 2 , which thus went to the former Miss World Aishwarya Rai .

From August 2008 she was the presenter of the Australian casting show Make Me a Supermodel , of which only one season was broadcast. In October 2010 it was announced that Hawkins was leaving Seven Network and joining Nine Network .

  • In July 2005, she signed a contract with hygiene and face care brand Lux and became their official face in Australia and New Zealand .
  • In August 2006, she became the ambassador for the Grand Waterfront, a large private housing estate in Hong Kong . This included full-page images in various Chinese newspapers, minute-long commercials in Hong Kong, and advertisements on numerous posters and buses.
  • In September 2006, she was awarded a three-year contract with Lovable Australia Lingerie .
  • In January 2007 she signed a four-year contract with the department store chain Myer for A $ 4 million.
  • On August 9, 2007, she was offered $ 50,000 for a nude shoot in the men's magazine Zoo Magazine , but she declined.
  • On January 6, 2010, she appeared naked on the cover of the Australian magazine Marie Claire .
