The Apprentice (dt. The Apprentice or The Apprentice) is an American television - reality show that from 2004 to 2017 by NBC aired.
The first season of the show was shown from January to April 2004. The content of this "13-week interview" show is the selection of a suitable candidate for a $ 250,000 one-year contract with one of Donald Trump's companies .
In weekly episodes, two teams are assigned a task, the results of which are then compared. A member of the losing team is then usually dismissed from the team and sent home with the phrase "You're fired!"
development
The show reached an average of over 20 million viewers in the USA in its first season. The original plan was that Donald Trump should only moderate the first season, followed by other seasons with different major business people as presenters. However, this concept was dropped after the first episode. In addition to Trump's appeal, the selection of candidates also contributed to success: members of disadvantaged groups such as blacks, Latinos and women easily found candidates with whom they could identify, and they were presented as ambitious entrepreneurs.
This multicultural orientation made The Apprentice very attractive to advertisers such as McDonald’s and Pepsi , and Trump himself became very popular, especially among blacks. However, this changed suddenly after he took up the conspiracy-theoretical rumor in 2011 that the incumbent President Barack Obama was in fact not a native of the US, but was born in Kenya . Blacks 'attitudes towards Trump changed dramatically, and the series' ratings plummeted. But even before that, there had been viewers - especially white - who remained loyal despite or even because of an aversion to the presenter of the series. The Apprentice weathered this crisis and only one of the larger advertisers got out.
Trump hosted the show until 2015, becoming a great TV personality. After entering the primary campaign for the US presidential election, NBC announced that he would no longer host the show in the future. However, it should continue to be broadcast. The successor Arnold Schwarzenegger was probably a preferred candidate for Donald Trump. According to the New York Times in February 2017, Trump continues to be involved in the show as a paid executive producer.
On March 3, 2017, Arnold Schwarzenegger announced that he would be leaving the show. The new season started in January 2017 and achieved ratings as bad as last year in 2010 (less than 5 million). Reasons for the departure are supposed to be the bad ratings.
NBC has not yet announced how the show will continue.
