Donald Trump Jr.
Donald John "Don" Trump Jr. (born December 31, 1977 in New York ) is an American entrepreneur . He has been CEO of the Trump Organization since 2017 . His father, New York real estate entrepreneur and billionaire Donald Trump , has been President of the United States since January 20, 2017 .
Life
Donald Trump Jr., usually called Don Trump, is the eldest of Donald Trump's three children and his first wife Ivana . His sister Ivanka (* 1981) and brother Eric (* 1984) emerged from the marriage. From his father's two later marriages, he has half-sister Tiffany (* 1993) and half-brother Barron (* 2006).
Trump Jr. graduated from the University of Pennsylvania where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in economics . After graduating, he took a year off ; he was skiing in Aspen , fishing, camping, living in a truck and working as a bartender .
He later worked for the family business The Trump Organization , a conglomerate that develops real estate projects (primarily skyscrapers and hotels) and builds and operates golf courses . The company has over 20,000 employees. His father announced on December 12, 2016 that Don and his brother Eric would take over the helm of the company during his presidency .
Campaign support for his father
Donald Trump Jr. is known as a committed and unreserved supporter of his father's policies, sometimes takes even more extreme positions than him and has been characterized as Trumpier than Trump . Like his two siblings, he often took part in his father's election campaign appearances and press meetings. He gave a speech at the 2016 Republican National Convention promoting his father. He had previously read out the result of the delegates' vote for New York State , which formally gave Donald Trump an absolute majority in order to be nominated as an official candidate. At the same time, the media raised Don Trump as a potential Republican candidate for New York City Mayor in 2017. Don was not averse, but pointed out that due to political geography, choosing a Republican in the city is very difficult.
In September 2016, he accused the media of bias, claiming:
“They've let her [Hillary Clinton] slide on every indiscrepancy [sic], on every lie, on every DNC game trying to get Bernie Sanders out of this thing. If Republicans were doing that, they'd be warming up the gas chamber right now. "
"They let her [Hillary Clinton] get away with every indiscrepancy [sic], every lie, every Democratic National Convention game that was aimed at getting Bernie Sanders out of this. If the Republicans had done that, they would have preheated the gas chamber. "
The Anti-Defamation League saw this expression as trivializing the Holocaust . Don replied that he was not referring to the gas chambers of the Nazis, but to those of the USA (in the context of state executions).
Investigations into Russia connections
As part of the allegations that his father's election campaign for the 2016 presidential election had unauthorized contacts with Russian authorities and that they collaborated with them in a collusive manner to the detriment of Hillary Clinton , Donald Trump Jr. also came into the media focus in July 2017. A meeting with Russian representatives on June 9, 2016 in Trump Tower became known, in which he had attended the then election campaign manager Paul Manafort and his brother-in-law Jared Kushner . The previously exchanged e-mails show that Trump Jr. organized the meeting with the Russian lawyer Natalia Wesselnitskaya because she had promised him incriminating material about Hillary Clinton. This was the first time that the closest election campaign team around Trump had contact with Russia with collusive intent. Donald Trump Jr., like Manafort, had to testify in a secret session before the Judiciary Committee of the US Senate on July 24, 2017 after Chairman Chuck Grassley had summoned them with threats of a subpoena .
Contacts with Gentry Beach
On March 12, 2018, it was revealed that Trump Jr. had failed to report a close business relationship with Texan hedge fund manager Gentry Beach, who raised millions of dollars for his father's campaign and had access to the government after the election. Beach is said to have met several times with members of the National Security Council to influence US policy towards Venezuela.
Private life
Trump met Vanessa Haydon in 2003 at a fashion show. They were married on November 12, 2005. They have five children who were born between 2007 and 2014. Vanessa Trump filed for divorce in March 2018. They have been divorced since the end of 2018.
Trump has been in a relationship with Kimberly Guilfoyle , a former Fox News host , since 2018 .
