In the 2016 US presidential election campaign, she accompanied and supported her father in campaign appearances. Above all, she tried to win voters for her father. She maintains (as of 2016) a close friendship with Hillary Clinton's daughter Chelsea and avoided negative comments about the Clintons during the election campaign.

After her father's election victory on November 8, 2016 , she joined the transition team. Observers thought she was the actual future " First Lady " of America with her commitment to and with her father and her obviously close relationship , as the current wife of Trump, Melania , is considered to be public shy and is still tied to the upbringing of their son Barron. Originally it was said that Trump wanted to entrust large parts of his company to his daughter in the event of an election victory.
