history

Jeníkov was one of the villages belonging to the Riesenburg castle lordship and came to the Dux lordship at the beginning of the 15th century after the castle was abandoned . Jeníkov was owned by the Counts von Waldstein from the middle of the 17th century .

After the abolition of patrimonial Janegg / Jeníkov with the districts Alt Wernsdorf / Staré Verneřice, Hegeholz / Hajniště, Holzseiten / Dřevoruby, Katzendorf / Kocourkov, Krinsdorf / Křižanov, Neu Wernsdorf / Nové Verneřice, and Ullersdorf in 1849 in the Töplitz district. In 1856, Strahl / Střelné was added as a district. In the second half of the 19th century, the character of the place changed with the start of lignite mining. In 1867 Ullersdorf received a railway connection. Janegg had become an industrial community by the 20th century. In 1930 Janegg had 5,321 inhabitants. Most of the residents were German Bohemians, a Czech minority also lived in the village. After the Munich Agreement in 1938 it was incorporated into the German Reich and assigned to the Dux district . After the departure of the Czechs, who did not take German citizenship, 4612 people lived in the municipality in 1939. After the Second World War, the majority of the German Bohemians were expelled. Střelná was umgemeindet in 1948 to Košťany . In 1961 the Okres Duchcov was dissolved and Jeníkov was assigned to the Okres Teplice.
