history

Bžany was first mentioned in a document in 1303.

At the beginning of the 19th century, Edmund Moritz von Clary-Aldringen bought Bžany and added it to his Fideikommissherrschaft Teplice . The place was dominated by agriculture until the 19th century, and hops were also grown. In 1830, lignite mining began at the Arnold mine near Webeschan and Ratsch.

After the abolition of patrimonial Webeschan / Vebžany formed from 1850 a district of the municipality Kladrob / Kradrob in the Teplice district. From 1910 Webeschan became an independent municipality, to which the district Ratsch / Hradiště belonged. In 1921 the Czech place name was changed to Bžany. In 1930, the municipality of Webeschan had 869 inhabitants, including von Ratsch, most of whom were Germans. After the Munich Agreement , the municipality was added to the German Reich and belonged to the Teplitz-Schönau district from 1939 to 1945 . In 1939 812 people lived in Webeschan. After the end of the Second World War, the place came back to Czechoslovakia and the German residents were expelled. Until 1953, the Karolína II and Přemysl mines were used to mine lignite. In 1961 Lhenice was incorporated, including the districts of Bukovice and Mošnov. 1980 Lysec was added with Lbín and Pytlíkov.
