Natalia Vladimirovna Wesselnitskaja (born February 22, 1975 ) is a Russian lawyer. She gained international fame when she met Donald Trump Junior during the 2016 presidential election campaign in which she allegedly offered him compromising material about Hillary Clinton .

Life

Wesselnitskaja completed her law studies in Moscow in 1998 and initially became a public prosecutor . She switched to a bank and when it was insolvent, Wesselnitskaya became an independent lawyer and named the firm Kamerton Consulting.

While working as a lawyer, she has represented a number of clients involved in property speculation and specializes in hostile corporate takeovers . She is known for the fact that she usually wins her lawsuits. Among other things , she represented Pyotr Kazyw , a senior official of the Russian Railways , and his son Denis Kazyw in court.

She later campaigned against the so-called "Magnitsky Act," and both of which was passed by the US Congress in response to the unexplained death of Sergei Magnitsky who uncovered illegal tax refunds from the treasury of $ 230 million Officials and business people connected to the Magnitsky case were sanctioned.

In 2016, she met Trump Junior. In early January 2019, Vesselnitskaya was charged by New York law enforcement agencies. Prosecutors accuse Veselnitskaya of investigating a money laundering case against a Russian entrepreneur and his Cyprus-registered investment firm Prevezon Holdings Ltd. to have disabled. In addition, since 2017 she has been in the sights of the special investigator and former head of the FBI , Robert Mueller , who is investigating whether there has been Russian interference in the American presidential election campaign and possibly cooperation between the Trump team and the Russians.

Private life

Wesselnitskaya was married to Alexander Mitusow, the then Deputy Prosecutor General of Moscow Oblast and later Vice Minister for Transport of the regional government. The marriage ended in divorce.
