Vittorio Giorgio Andrea "Victor" Spinetti (born September 2, 1929 in Cwm , Wales , † June 18, 2012 in Monmouth , Wales) was a British film and theater actor . The musician Henry Spinetti was his brother.

Life

He received his acting training from the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in Cardiff . He then began to work as a stage actor and worked regularly with the theater director Joan Littlewood , among others . In 1965, he was named on Broadway for appearing as the pesky drill sergeant in the Littlewood musical Oh! What a Lovely War won the Tony Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Musical . From the 1970s, he was next to the theater work as a musical - director active. In his later career he appeared several times in plays for the Royal Shakespeare Company .

Spinetti became a film actor in the 1960s through his comical supporting roles in the three Beatles films Yeah Yeah Yeah , Hi-Hi-Hilfe! and Magical Mystery Tour . By 2006 he worked on a total of over 80 film and television productions.

In 2006 he published Up Front ...: His Strictly Confidential Autobiography, his autobiography. One of his last projects before his death was singing the Beatles song Obladi Oblada for the international music project The Beatles Complete On Ukulele . Spinetti died in June 2012 at the age of 82 from complications from cancer .
