Ernst Otto Lindner
Ernst Otto Timotheus Lindner (born November 28, 1820 in Breslau ; † August 7, 1867 in Berlin ) was a German musicological writer and journalist .
Life
Lindner studied philology in Breslau, where he also received his doctorate . In 1845 he accepted a position as a private tutor in Berlin. Around 1848 he became editor of the Vossische Zeitung , later he became editor-in-chief . In particular, he emerged as a music reviewer and promoted the dissemination of the works of Bach, Mozart and Gluck. Lindner was a friend of Arthur Schopenhauer and defended his philosophy in his work Zur Tonkunst . The story of the German song , which appeared posthumously in 1871, is considered to be Lindner's main work .
