Blake Memorial Library

The Blake Memorial Library is located in East Corinth . It was founded in the early 1890s by three young men in East Corinth. They found a room and set it up, then they took a wheelbarrow and drove through the streets asking for books. Others followed and the East Corinth Library Association was formed. The rooms had to be changed several times until a plot of land for a building was found in November 1900. A former resident of the town Almira Blake Gendrot Fenno from Boston finally decided, together with her two siblings, in memory of her parents from Corinth to finance them. The new building was inaugurated in 1902 and the Blake Memorial Library Association was established. In 1945 the Blake Memorial Library burned down. The entire inventory was lost, including some works of art that Almira Blake had donated to the library. Only the 200 to 300 books that were in circulation could be preserved. A short time later, work was carried out on a new, modest building, as only a few funds were available despite the generous donations from the Blake siblings. This was completed in 1949.
