Hale K. Darling (born January 26, 1869 in Corinth , Vermont , † September 18, 1940 in Chelsea , Vermont) was an American lawyer and politician , who was Lieutenant Governor of Vermont from 1915 to 1917 .

Life

Hale Knight Darling was born in Corinth, Vermont. He worked in Massachusetts as a clerk for the Fitchburg Railroad and a reporter for the Daily Sentinel in Fitchburg before studying law at the University of North Carolina . He was admitted to the bar after graduating in 1894, after which he practiced as a lawyer in Chelsea, Vermont.

A member of the Republican Party of Vermont, Darling was Orange County Prosecutor from 1896 to 1900 . He was a member of the Vermont Bar Licensing Laboratory from 1901 to 1903 and clerk to the Orange County Court from 1896 to 1900.

Darling was a member of the Vermont House of Representatives from 1904 to 1908 . In 1905 he was appointed chairman of the Vermont Library Commission, and from 1905 to 1907 he was a member of the Vermont Constitution Revision Commission. He was a member of the Vermont Senate from 1912 to 1914.

He was elected lieutenant governor in 1914 and his term lasted from 1915 to 1917. At the same time he remained a member of the commission for the revision of the Vermont statutes.

He was again a member of the Vermont Senate from 1919 to 1921. In 1937 he was chairman of the commission that reviewed the Vermont judicial system and drafted reforms.

Darling died in Chelsea on September 18, 1940. His grave is in Chelsea's Highland Cemetery.
