David Zuckerman

David Zuckerman (born August 16, 1971 in Boston , Massachusetts ) is an American politician . In November 2016, he was elected the new Lieutenant Governor of the State of Vermont . He took up this position on January 5, 2017.

Career

Zuckerman grew up in Brookline , Massachusetts, where he graduated from high school in 1989. He then studied at the University of Vermont until 1995 . Since 1999 he has been running an organic farm near Burlington . In 2009 he moved the farm near Hinesburg . At the same time, the company was expanded significantly. He is a member of several agricultural associations.

Politically, he joined the Vermont Progressive Party . He was initially a member of several local bodies. Between 1996 and 2011 he was a member of the Vermont House of Representatives . He then became a member of the State Senate . In 2016, Zuckerman was nominated by both his party and the Democrats as a joint candidate for Lieutenant Governor of Vermont. In the election he prevailed with just under 50% of the vote. According to the state constitution, because it had not exceeded the 50% mark, the state legislature had to vote again on the outcome of the election in January. However, his confirmation was considered certain because he had the majority of both chambers behind him and his election was not contested. After the final confirmation, he took office on January 5, 2017. He succeeds the Republican Phil Scott who was elected as the new governor . He is therefore also its deputy. As Vice Governor, he also chairs the State Senate.
