The UHC Gänserndorf is a handball club from Gänserndorf in Lower Austria .
history
The UHC Gänserndorf was founded in the early 1950s as the handball section of the Union Gänserndorf. At that time, only full-field handball was played . In the early 1960s, coordinated youth work began under Erich Litschauer. From the second half of the 1960s, people switched from the field to the hall. At that time, due to the shortage of halls, most of the handball games of the Lower Austrian teams were played in Prottes . For years, the jury provided the Union Gänserndorf.
From the 1974/75 season the youth work began to bear fruit. In 1974/75 the Vice State Champion title and in 1984/45, 1985/86, 1986/87 and 1989/90 the Vice or State Champion title in the A-Youth was won. In 1988 Krzizstof Gawlik became the first legionnaire from Poland as a Player-coach engaged. He managed to bring the team to the top of Lower Austria. A few years later Jan Hianik replaced him as coach and Milan Englman was another legionnaire committed. With this team you could become national champion in 1992 and won the promotion tournament for the Handball Bundesliga Austria . In 1997/98 the Lower Austrians had the first chance to move up to the Handball League Austria . They failed by one goal against their rivals from Dornbirn .
In 2001 the association made it into the HLA. In 2002/03 the Gänserndorfer reached the round of 16 in the ÖHB Cup for the first time, but in the same year they took part in the HBA's game operations again. The team qualified for the first division again in the next season.
In the years that followed, the Lower Austrians fought to stay in the league every year. They finished tenth and last four times in the regular season of the first division between 2004 and 2009. Twice, in 2005/06 and 2007/08 , no game could be won in the main round. Nevertheless, they reached the round of 16 in the 2007/08 cup competition for the second time in the club's history. Because of the bad placements, the team had to go to the lower play-off. There it saved itself every year with the fourth place from relegation. Second place in 2005 was an exception. In 2008/09 they were unable to stay up, the Gänserndorfer had to relegate to the Handball Bundesliga Austria. In their first season in the second division they reached ninth place and had to go into the relegation play-off of the HBA. There the relegation could be maintained with the second place. After this season, the longstanding main sponsor Interwetten ended the collaboration. The UHC performed without a main sponsor for a year . This year the team had to go to the lower play-off, but secured themselves with a good third place to stay in the Bundesliga. From the 2011/12 season GFtube.tv could be found as a name sponsor, this cooperation lasted until 2014. During this time, the Lower Austrians were able to qualify for the HLA promotion play-off, but finished eighth and last there. In the remaining years they each had to go to the lower play-off, but managed to stay up there every year. The last two seasons were ups and downs. In 2012/13, the Gänserndorfers managed to stay in the Bundesliga with the penultimate place. In the following season they offered the best performance since relegation to the HBA and secured sixth place.
