Handball Tirol is a men's handball club from Tyrol in Austria .

history

In 2013 the clubs ULZ Schwaz and HIT Innsbruck decided to enter into a financially motivated cooperation under the name Handball Tirol. This community only includes the teams that take part in the Handball League Austria and Handball Bundesliga Austria . A team in Innsbruck will compete in the HBA, while in Schwaz HLA will be played. The aim is to give young up-and-coming players playing time in the second highest division and to gradually bring them up to the level of performance in top-class sport. The second team of Handball Tirol has been competing in the Italian A2 series since the 2018/19 season.

In the 2013/14 season, the first team, under Erwin Gierlinger , was able to reach 7th place in the HLA, in the second division they got to the league finals, but failed there at Union St. Pölten . In March 2015, Raúl Alonso was signed as a coach. Alonso was previously responsible for the offspring at THW Kiel and was with the Tyroleans between the 2015/16 and 2017/18 seasons . Subsequently, the assistant coach Sebastià Salvat took over before Frank Bergemann was introduced as coach in February. In recent years, the team has always been able to secure relegation early on but failed in the quarter-finals in 2015/16 , 2017/18 and 2018/19 and in the semi-finals in 2016/17 .
