Sparkasse Schwaz Handball Tirol is an Austrian handball club from Schwaz . Since 2013 only youth and hobby sports have been offered. The former first team was outsourced to the new Handball Tirol club .

history

The predecessor of the ULZ was the Schwaz gymnastics club, which operated large field handball in Schwaz after the end of the Second World War . Under Alf Haidacher , the team barely missed promotion to the State League A in the early 1960s. Later in the 1960s, the team was always among the best teams in the State League and later in the Alpine League and the Western League. With the shift of the sport of handball from the field to the hall, there were hard cuts for some players, others, such as Ritchie Angerer and John Lilg , were part of the Austrian national team's squad for qualifying for the 1972 Olympic Games . The greatest success of the ULZ Sparkasse Schwaz was the ÖHB-CUP victory in the 2010/2011 season. As a result, the Schwaz qualified for the EHF European Cup Winners' Cup 2011/12 , where the club was eliminated in the first round.

In May 2013 the club entered into a partnership with HIT Innsbruck under the name Handball Tirol , and since then the ULZ Schwaz has only operated youth teams. The HLA team is part of the cooperation.

Home hall

The Schwaz-Ost sports hall, Johannes-Messner-Weg 12, 6130 Schwaz, serves as the club's home venue.
