The SC Ferlach is an Austrian sports club from Ferlach in Carinthia . The most successful section is the handball department, which currently plays in the HLA , the top division in Austria.
The SC Ferlach was founded in 1963 with the Badminton section . In the following year the handball section was created, further sections are karate , volleyball and basketball .
The handball section was founded in August 1964. Small-field handball was played on the lawn until 1973 , before moving to an asphalt court . In 1975 SC Ferlach took part in an indoor handball championship for the first time. In 1979 the ball sports hall Ferlach was built; from that point on it was the home of the teams. In 1985 the men's team qualified for the handball Bundesliga Austria for the first time , but was unable to establish itself there and was relegated two years later.
In the 2000/01 season, a women's team took part in the second division for the first time, but could not hold the class either. In 2002/03, the men made it to the HBA again. In 2013/14 , the SC Ferlach team took part in the Handball League Austria for the first time in club history . The national team player Fabian Posch was signed up to keep the league . In addition, the team made it to the semifinals in the ÖHB Cup . After losing the relegation series 2-0 against HSG Bärnbach / Köflach , the team was relegated again. In 2014/15 the SC finished the basic round in first place. After the Ferlacher had completed the upper placement round in third place, they met UHC Hollabrunn in the semifinals , but failed in the league final at HC Bruck. In 2015/16 SC Ferlach took fourth place in the regular round. Third place was achieved in the placement round, so the Ferlach team competed in the semifinals against Union St. Pölten . The Lower Austrians were beaten in two games, so the team was in the final for promotion. There the HSG Graz could be beaten 2: 1 in the best of three series. Since 2016/17 , SC Ferlach has been back in the Handball League Austria.
