The Bundesliga season began in September 2015.
Handball Bundesliga Austria
Ten teams are represented in the second highest division, the HBA. The championship is divided into several phases. In the main round, all teams play a simple round trip against each opponent. After that, the league is divided into two groups.
The first five teams play in another round-trip round to make it to the HBA semi-finals. The last five teams play against relegation, with the last two teams of the placement round playing a best-of-three series to stay up. The placement round is also played in a round trip.

Playoffs
The first five teams of the regular season play in a further round-trip for participation in the HBA semi-finals. The last five teams play against relegation, with the last two teams of the placement round playing a best-of-three series to stay up. The placement round is also played out in a round trip. Each team starts the playoff phase with the halved points of the regular season, uneven numbers are rounded up.

HBA semifinals
For the semifinals, the first four teams of the top playoff are qualified. The first against the fourth and the second placed against the fourth. The knockout phase is carried out in best-of-three series, the winners play in the final for promotion to the Handball League Austria .
