Career

Aleš Pajovič began playing handball with the Slovenian series champion RK Celje in his hometown. There he played his first league games in 1997. With the men from the Slovenian Styria , he won the Slovenian Championship from 1998 to 2003 and the Slovenian Cup from 1998 to 2001. In 2003 he moved to the Spanish league ASOBAL to BM Ciudad Real . There he won the Spanish championship and the Copa ASOBAL in 2003/04, the Copa ASOBAL again in 2004/05, the Copa ASOBAL, the EHF Champions League and the European Club Championship in 2005/06 and the Spanish championship, the Copa ASOBAL and 2006/07 the club EM.

In the summer of 2007, however, a problem arose at Ciudad Real: with nine foreigners, the club had already exhausted the Spanish league's immigration restrictions and Pajovič had to take a seat in the stands as the tenth foreigner. Ciudad Real then offered him to change clubs; Pajovič initially stayed with the top club from the Castile-La Mancha region and hoped that Arpad Šterbik and Siarhei Rutenka would receive Spanish citizenship as soon as possible.

At the beginning of October 2007, Pajovič was loaned out by the German master THW Kiel until the end of 2007 to compensate for Nikola Karabatić and Filip Jícha 's injuries. After the loan business ended, he moved back to Ciudad Real and won the Spanish championship, the Spanish cup, the Spanish Supercup, the Copa ASOBAL and the EHF Champions League this season. In the 2008/09 season he again won the championship and the EHF Champions League with Ciudad Real. Then he returned to Celje.

For the spring season 2011 Aleš Pajovič was awarded to HC Shoppingcity Seiersberg (Austria) to help them move up to the handball league Austria. For the 2011/12 season he moved to SC Magdeburg . After the winter break of 2012/13 he moved to TuS N-Lübbecke, where he played until 2015. He then signed a contract with the Austrian club HSG Graz , where he was active as a player-coach until the 2017/18 season .

For the 2018/19 season Pajovič was only employed as a trainer in Graz. The Slovenian surprisingly led the team into the bonus round this season and qualified the team early for the quarter-finals of the spusu league .

In March 2019 Pajovič was presented as coach of the Austrian men's national handball team.

Aleš Pajovič has played 181 international matches for the Slovenian national team . With Slovenia he reached the finals at the 2004 European Championships in his own country, but lost to the German team there. For the 2007 World Cup in Germany, Pajovič canceled due to disputes with the Slovenian national coach; at the European Championships in 2008 , however, he ran again for his country. He took part in the Olympic Games in 2000 and 2004 with Slovenia .
