BM Ciudad Real is a Spanish handball club from Ciudad Real . In the 2000s, the men's team won a large number of titles in the Spanish ASOBAL league and at the European level. The home ground was the Quijote Arena. In 2011, the licensed team moved to Madrid and played there under the name BM Atlético de Madrid until they withdrew in 2013 .

history

The association was founded in 1981 under the name ADC Caserío Vigón . The association has had its current name since 1992. The club's president is billionaire Domingo Díaz de Mera.

In the 2007/08 and 2008/09 seasons they won both the Champions League and the national championship. In the 2009/10 season the Spanish championship was won for the fifth time. In the semifinals of the Final Four tournament of the Champions League, however, the eventual winner THW Kiel lost 27:29. The following year they moved back into the final, which was lost to constant rivals FC Barcelona at 23:28. The team's coach has been Talant Dujshebaev since 2005 , who was also a player for the club.

After financial problems in the 2010/11 season, the first men's team, including the license for the ASOBAL league, moved to the state capital, Madrid, in order to be able to acquire more sponsorship money and spectators. BM Atlético de Madrid received a place in the ASOBAL league in the 2011/12 season.
