Kagerou ( Japanese 蜉蝣 ) was a Japanese visual kei rock band that existed from 1999 to 2007.

history

Kagerou was founded in September 1999 by singer Daisuke and bassist Masaya; soon the guitarist Yuana joined them. Initially, Kagerou was under contract with the Loop Ash label and then moved to Lizard in 2000, which is part of the Free-Will Co. In the following years Kagerou achieved a certain popularity within the Japanese visual kei scene and in 2005 undertook a first European tour to Germany and France.

In September 2006, Kagerou announced their breakup during a live performance, which took place in January 2007. On December 27, 2006, an album with their greatest hits was released, which is called Shinjuuka . She gave her last concert on January 8, 2007 at the Zepp Tokyo.

Band members

  • Singing: Daisuke († July 15, 2010)
Daisuke wrote all of the lyrics for Kagerou and was the singer for the band. In his previous band Le'Cheri and Fatima he was active as a drummer. Daisuke also mastered the piano. The singer was popular for his intense interaction with the audience. After Kagerou broke up in 2007, he founded the band The Studs and also pursued his solo project Daisuke to Kuro no Injatachi . He died on July 15, 2010.
  • Guitar: Yuana
Guitarist Yuana wrote most of the band's songs. He used to be in the bands Sweet Hallucination and Alicia , where he was known as "Ewana". He currently plays with Boogieman .
  • Bass: Kazu
Kazu used to play at Research as "Kazunori" and at Aioria as "Kazutake".
  • Drums: Shizumi
Shizumi was active with Miter Cure and Melusine .

style

Kagerou are part of visual kei, a style that is characterized by a dark, androgynous appearance. Compared to other bands in this genre, their appearance was much simpler and more subtle, but Kagerou saw themselves as a visual kei band.

When she first started out, however, her appearance was much more blatant, especially during her time with an independent label . At that time they could have been assigned to Angura Kei , but they also combined elements of Eroguro and Visual Kei.

Surname

The band name Kagerou is the Japanese name for mayfly , a short-lived insect . The allusion relates to the insect's short lifespan, as singer Daisuke did not have a long life expectancy due to a heart condition and the band would not last for "forever". The Kanji 蜉蝣 for Kagerou are older and are no longer used in everyday life in Japan.
