Liga Asobal 2009/10

The 2009/2010 season was the 50th in the history of the ASOBAL league , the top division in Spanish handball . BM Ciudad Real was the defending champion who had won their 4th title the previous season.

The season started on Saturday, September 11th, 2009 and ended on Saturday, May 15th, 2010. The leader of the table after the 30th matchday was automatically Spanish champions 2010. A total of 16 teams fought for the championship, of which 14 teams were already in the season 2008/09 had competed, and two of which had been promoted from the División de Honor B.

The number of participants in the European Cups is regulated by the EHF ranking list . The participant in the European Cup Winners' Cup was only determined after the final of the Copa del Rey de Balonmano. The ASOBAL league had 4 places in the EHF Champions League because a qualifying tournament was played before the main round. In this clubs were chosen that should raise the level of the EHF Champions League. A Bundesliga team also took part in this qualification tournament.
