Rafael "Rafa" Baena González (born November 7, 1982 in Estepa , Seville province ) is a Spanish handball player .
The 1.91 meter tall and 120 kilogram heavy cyclist began playing handball with BM Estepa in his birthplace. Further stations in the youth of Baena are BM Dos Hermanas and ARS Palma del Río. Then Baena ran for BM Antequera . In the summer of 2011, the Spaniard signed a contract with Ademar León , with whom he played in the EHF Champions League in the 2011/12 season. Due to the economic situation in Spain, he moved in July 2012 to the French first division club US Créteil HB , with whom he was relegated to the second division at the end of the season. For the 2014/15 season he returned to Spain to CB Puente Genil. In the summer of 2015, Baena moved to the handball Bundesliga to the Rhein-Neckar Löwen and signed a contract there until June 30, 2016. After Baena performed convincingly in the German Bundesliga, he extended his contract with the end of October 2015, which was due to expire at the end of the season Rhein-Neckar Löwen for two more years until June 30, 2018. He then moved to Bergisch HC for two years and in summer 2020 to the Spanish second division team BM Los Dólmenes.
Baena made 21 international appearances until December 2016 , scoring 34 goals. He was in the extended squad for the 2014 European Handball Championship .
